Groundswell Community Audio Walks: SOUNDZONES
This project proposes to create a series of audio walks in industrial heritage areas, urban parks and commercial zones. The short video is set on a trail lying beside Highway 101 and the Salish Sea in the heart of Powell River, BC. This audio walk will highlight post industrial history (previously used as a logging railway between the Powell River Mill), Tla’amin First Nations cultural sites (midden, CMT’s, Harwood Island view), ecology and present day stories. The project will be created to encourage active outdoor experiences, community engagement and public art. Through movement and sound installations participants will experience their environment in different ways. The virtual recordings will also raise questions about established truths, histories and authorship through the fabrication of new stories.
