Prince George Public Library Queer Straight Alliance
The Prince George Public Library is dedicated to quality service and responding to the needs of our community. Young people growing up in the less-populated northern regions can often feel isolated and alone. The Library Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) program for teens has worked to support the social and emotional growth of youth and provides them with a safe space to meet and socialize with others like themselves. The Prince George Public Library created the GSA in the spring of 2013 as the result from discussions held by the Library Youth Advisory Board.
Now we are hoping to reinvigorate the program by making it more inclusive to transgendered people in the community and calling it the Queer Straight Alliance. We have been advised by both school district #57 employees and the library Youth Advisory Board that the term Queer Straight Alliance is more suitable in order to reach the objectives of the community.
